The Porn Blocker That Can't Be Uninstalled
Ascension is a porn blocker for Windows that blocks harmful and distracting content on the web. It is intended for people who struggle with addiction, and it tracks your digital usage automatically to give insights on how one can improve. Blocks can be locked so they cannot be removed, not even by uninstalling.
Available on Windows 10 & 11
Why Porn Blockers Get Removed
During an urge, nothing will make you stop. We are wired to crave sex, and pornography gives the brain that reward with no effort, so any blocker that is easy to remove will be removed.
A standalone browser extension offers almost no protection. Right click, remove, done.
An extension also only blocks the browser it is installed in. Porn blocked in Chrome is still open in Edge, which is already installed on every Windows computer.
SafeSearch, DNS filters and edits to the hosts file cover the whole computer, but you set every one of them up, so you know exactly how to switch each one off again.
What works is a dedicated blocker that is hard-to-bypass. Something that you cannot easily remove. That is Ascension.
What Ascension Does
Ascension blocks harmful and distracting content on your computer. For people who want to quit pornography permanently, it is a hard-to-bypass blocker built for people who struggle with addiction.
Block variety
Block whole sites, sections of a site, keywords and search terms, always or on a schedule, with daily time limits and entry delays for whole sites.
Block tampering
A block cannot be edited or deleted.
Uninstall protection
Ascension cannot be uninstalled while a block is locked.
Extension tampering
Removing or disabling the browser extension does not lift a block, and a browser running without it is closed while a block is active.
Premade block lists
Adult content, gambling and social media lists are ready to block in one step.
How Ascension Works
Start by deciding what to block. The premade adult content block list blocks most porn in one step, and you can add anything it misses yourself.
What gets blocked
Website
A whole adult site, every page on it.
URL
A single section of a website. Block NSFW subreddits while keeping use of reddit as a whole.
Search word
A term you do not want to be able to search for. It is blocked in search engines and nowhere else.
Keyword
A term that is blocked on any page it appears on.
New adult sites appear every day, so a list of domains alone always falls behind. Search words and keywords block the term itself, wherever it shows up.
How it gets blocked
For adult content, use Always block. It is on 24 hours a day, every day, with no allowance and no window where it opens again. Time limits, entry delays and scheduled blocks are for sites like YouTube, Reddit or news, where the goal is less time rather than none.
How it gets enforced
A block on its own can still be switched off. Adding a lock is what stops you from editing or deleting it. For adult content, it needs to be locked so that it cannot be edited later.
How to Make a Porn Blocker You Can't Delete
In Ascension, a lock is a setting you add to a block. While a block is locked, you can't edit or delete it. For the strongest locks, you cannot uninstall Ascension either. To change the block, you first have to unlock it, and each type of lock decides how hard that is.
For quitting porn, use the Until date lock. You pick a date in the future, and the block can't be unlocked before that date.
The other locks can be unlocked sooner:
Password
Unlocks when the password is entered.
Random text
Unlocks after you type out a long random string.
Countdown
Unlocks after a countdown runs out.
Time range
Can only be unlocked during a set window of time.
These suit things you want to cut down on, like YouTube and Netflix. For porn, use the Until date lock.
Blocks Porn in Every Browser
Ascension covers Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi.
While a block is active, a browser running without Ascension's extension is closed. That includes a browser Ascension does not support.
Can the Porn Blocker Be Bypassed or Uninstalled?
Not while a block is locked. These are the first things people try, and what each one does.
You open Settings and click Uninstall
The uninstaller won't run until the lock ends. After that, Ascension uninstalls like any other application.
You switch to another browser
If that browser doesn't have Ascension's extension, it is closed while the block is active.
You disable the extension
The block stays active. A disabled extension is treated the same as a removed one, so the browser is closed.
Who Uses A Porn Blocker
People quitting porn
It is hard to resist porn during an urge. A porn blocker stops you from opening it.
People who have removed a blocker before
Many people who try to quit install a blocker, remove it, and install it again. A porn blocker that can't be uninstalled can't be removed during an urge.
People rebuilding trust with a partner
A partner can see that a porn blocker is installed and active.
People in recovery or working with a therapist
Therapists often recommend a porn blocker as part of treatment for compulsive porn use.
People whose porn use conflicts with their values
Some people want to stop watching porn for religious or moral reasons. A porn blocker stops them from accessing it.
Parents
Children can find porn on their own or by accident. A porn blocker stops it from loading on their computer.
FAQ
Can a porn blocker be uninstalled?
Most can. Ascension can't be uninstalled while a block is locked. When the lock ends, it uninstalls like any other application.
Can porn blockers be bypassed?
Most porn blockers can be bypassed by removing the extension or switching browsers. While a block in Ascension is locked, uninstalling doesn't work, disabling the extension doesn't lift the block, and browsers without the extension are closed.
Does it block porn in incognito mode?
Yes. Blocks apply in private windows, and any browser running without the extension is closed while a block is active.
Is there a free porn blocker?
Ascension has a 15-day free trial. After the trial it costs $12.99 per month or $50 one-time.
Can I block porn on Reddit without blocking all of Reddit?
Yes. A URL block blocks one section of a site, so you can block NSFW subreddits and keep using the rest of Reddit.
Can I block porn on my child's computer?
Yes. Load the adult content list on your child's computer and lock it until a date. Before that date, the block can't be edited or deleted, and Ascension can't be uninstalled.
What is the best porn blocker for Windows?
It depends on what you need. We compare the main options in our list of the best porn blockers.
Does Ascension see what I browse?
Your usage is tracked automatically on your own computer. Everything happens locally. No server is used and nothing leaves your computer.
